The roulette table layout, zone by zone
Inside: position is the bet
Chip fully inside a box = straight-up · on a shared line = split · row’s outer edge = street · four-corner intersection = corner · two rows’ outer corner = six line. Dealers re-place ambiguous chips — in live rooms, say the bet as you place it.
Outside: groups and their boxes
Long boxes flanking the grid: 1st/2nd/3rd 12, the 2-to-1 column slots at the grid’s foot, and the even-money row — red/black diamonds, odd/even, 1–18/19–36. House rule that surprises beginners: outside bets usually demand the full table minimum each, while inside chips may add up to it across numbers.
The racetrack — the wheel’s embassy on the felt
The oval lists numbers in rim order with zones marked voisins / orphelins / tiers — tap once and the dealer (or software) scatters the multi-chip pattern for you. It exists because the grid can’t express “this physical arc”; the racetrack can. Full sector math: voisins, tiers, orphelins, jeu zéro.
Reading a table in five seconds
① Count greens at the top — one, two or three sets your price. ② Find the minimum placard — inside vs outside often differ. ③ Racetrack present? Sector bets available. ④ “La partage / en prison” on the placard? You’ve found the 1.35% table — sit.
